Film screening + discussion: Death of an Internet Activist – The Aaron Swartz Story
Aaron Swartz was considered an amazing thinker, a visionary, and he was among the brightest minds of the Internet. As a programmer and activist, he advocated for an open Internet and for free access to information, and as a result he came into conflict with the law. The documentary tells his amazing and highly tragic life story, which he ended himself in 2013 after only 26 years. 10 years after his death, mur.at organized an artist in residence and an international worklab in Graz, which tries to artistically explore and further think about some of the topics Aaron was also concerned with – like free software, free access to knowledge, net neutrality – from today’s perspective.
Followed by a discussion about the film and mur.at’s activities with Ricardo Ginés (guest artist AIR 2023, Tactical Tech Berlin), Wouter Moraal (media artist, Cybersecurity consultant, NL), Andreas Zingerle (mur.at) and Claudia Garád (Wikimedia Austria).
